What are zero-width characters?
Invisible Unicode marks used for tracking or formatting. They make two identical-looking strings compare as different.
Will it remove emoji?
No, emoji are visible characters and are kept unless you explicitly strip non-ASCII.

Yes, curly quotes become straight ASCII quotes — important for code and CSV.
