About PDF to Word

PDF to Word rebuilds a PDF as an editable DOCX: paragraphs, headings, lists and tables are recovered, and images are placed back in position.

It is the right tool when a PDF is the only copy you have and the text needs editing — a contract draft, a CV, a report someone sent as an export.

How to use PDF to Word

  1. 1

    Upload the PDF

Choose the file. Scanned documents without a text layer are detected and flagged instead of producing an empty document.

  2. 2

    Convert

Layout analysis runs page by page. Complex multi-column pages take a little longer.

  3. 3

    Open in Word

Download the .docx and open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. Expect to fix minor spacing on heavily designed pages.

Questions about PDF to Word

Will the formatting be identical?

Close, not pixel-identical. Simple documents convert cleanly; magazines and forms may need small adjustments.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Only if the scan already contains a text layer. Image-only scans need OCR first, which this tool does not perform.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

Remove the password with PDF Unlock first, then convert. We never ask for or store your password.

What is the output format?

A standard .docx file that opens in Microsoft Word 2007 and newer, Google Docs and LibreOffice Writer.
