Do I need a maskable icon?
For Android home screens, yes — a maskable 512 px icon with safe padding avoids cropping.
Why is the old icon still showing?
Favicon caches are stubborn. Append a version query or clear the browser cache.
Should the icon have transparency?
Usually yes for the .ico; maskable icons need an opaque background to avoid black corners.
