A 30% return over five years is not the same as 30% in one year; the annualised figure makes that visible.

What is the difference between ROI and annualised ROI?
ROI is total return over the whole period; annualised spreads it per year using compound growth.
Should I include fees?
Yes. Ignoring fees overstates returns, sometimes by more than the profit itself.
Can ROI be negative?
Yes, when the final value is below the invested amount.
Does it account for inflation?
No. Subtract inflation from the annualised return to get a real return.
