About Audio Compressor

Audio Compressor lowers the bitrate and sample rate of an audio file so it takes less space, which matters for podcasts, voice notes and anything that has to fit an upload limit.

Speech survives aggressive compression well: a 30-minute recording at 64 kbps mono is usually intelligible and a fraction of the WAV size. Music needs more headroom.

How to use Audio Compressor

  1. 1

    Upload the audio

MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC and OGG are accepted.

  2. 2

    Pick a bitrate

64 kbps mono for speech, 128 kbps for general listening, 192–320 kbps for music.

  3. 3

    Download

Compare the before/after size; convert from the original if the result sounds thin.

Questions about Audio Compressor

How much smaller will it get?

A 320 kbps file at 128 kbps drops roughly 60%. WAV sources shrink far more because they are uncompressed to begin with.

Can compression be undone?

No. Re-encoding from a compressed file loses more detail each time, so keep the original.

Should I use mono?

For voice, yes — mono halves the data and is usually indistinguishable on a single speaker.

Does it keep the tags?

Title and artist tags are preserved where the container supports them.
