About Video to GIF
Video to GIF turns a short clip into a looping GIF with no audio, which plays inline everywhere — chat apps, documentation, issue trackers and email.
GIF is a heavy format, so the tool exposes frame rate and width: dropping to 12 fps and 480 px usually cuts the file by more than half.
How to use Video to GIF
- 1
Upload the video
MP4, MOV and WebM are accepted; keep clips short for a reasonable file size.
- 2
Set fps and width
10–15 fps looks fine for UI clips; 480 px fits most chat windows.
- 3
Download the GIF
Check the size — a 5-second 480 px clip is typically 1–3 MB.
Questions about Video to GIF
Why is my GIF so large?
GIF stores every frame with a limited palette. Lower fps, smaller width and a shorter range are the only real levers.
Can the GIF have sound?
No. GIF has no audio track; use MP4 if sound matters.
Is there a length limit?
No hard limit, but anything beyond 10 seconds becomes impractically large.
Will the colours look right?
GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame. Gradients may band; flat UI colours convert cleanly.
