XML Formatter

Beautify and indent XML documents for readability.

About XML Formatter

XML Formatter indents nested elements and validates that tags are balanced, which turns a single-line export into something a human can actually read.

It preserves CDATA sections and attributes, and reports the first mismatched tag instead of silently producing broken output.

How to use XML Formatter

  1. 1

    Paste the XML

A document, a SOAP envelope, or an RSS feed.

  2. 2

    Format

Choose indentation; attributes are kept on their element.

  3. 3

    Validate the result

A mismatched closing tag is reported with its position.

Questions about XML Formatter

Does it resolve external entities?

No. External entity resolution is disabled, which prevents XXE-style attacks.

Will it change my data?

Only whitespace between elements. Text content and CDATA are left untouched.

Can it handle large files?

Documents of a few megabytes are fine; much larger ones are limited by browser memory.

Does it validate against a schema?

No, it checks well-formedness, not XSD conformance.
